2020 continues to take, and sadly we say farewell to our beloved Lucy dog. She has blessed our family for 11 years with unconditional love, loyalty, trust, acceptance, mischief, and no judgement. She loves everybody and truly thought anyone that came over, was her visitor. She has been patient with all of the 13 littles yanking on her ears, poking at her eyes and trying to ride her like a pony.

I am so grateful that God has blessed us with animals to take care of, nurture and learn from. They teach so many of the lessons that matter and attributes we should strive for. Patience is one. Lucy would stare up a tree for a squirrel or wait for a lizard to come out from the rain gutter for hours. Grateful – She loved our property and was happy to roll in the grass, run in the sand, hunt the woods or sit by the shop and look over her kingdom. Enjoy nature – Going for walks was the best and would perk up at the touch of her leash or my running shoes. Even when she was in pain, her tail would beat against the wall until the door opened to go outside and the adventure never got old! Eat your crust – she loved p&J and didn’t mind if it was the crust. Eating crust now in honor of Lucy.

Lucy had that calm peace, that even when it’s been ‘a day’, her eyes would reassure it’s all ok and no matter what, it’ll all work out. She gave great comfort and wisdom through those eyes. So much I miss already and find comfort in knowing she is running pain free with her buddy Roxy and baby Jack. I’m certain our pets are eternally ours and will see those big eyes once again. So grateful for the time we had!
These are just a few of the Lucy Lessons that have made me a better person. What are some you have gleaned from your pets?
