Cousin Fun!
I’ve read somewhere that each generation over compensates for what they lacked in their own childhood. I’m certain my parenting and grandparenting behavior supports and validates this theory to be true.
One set of my grandparents died when I was eight or so. We moved from Chicago a bit after that distancing my other grandparents, so I felt cheated on that extended circle of love growing up. My children didn’t have grandparent representation either, except for my mother-in-law. She was great and did the best we all could living out of state. So consequently, I feel the compulsive need to BE a present grandmother, love them unconditionally, and make as many memories as we can along the way. I’m not a buy things kind of grandma, but spending time together is so very important!
This is where Grandma Camps came in to play! Selfish grandma time to have the kids and give moms and dads five days or so off! No parents allowed! 2020 will be my 10th year of camps and each one has been a treasure! Every year gets bigger and bigger, albeit we keep adding kids and they get older and older, so we have to learn along with having fun.
I started with the Fabulous Five when my oldest grandchild was five. Now #1 will be 15 this month and there are ten grands that gather, and a baby in D.C we will add in. I get carried away because my mind goes a bit over the top, but such a blessing in my life to have these experiences with my grandchildren. It has built strong cousin relationships and there is no doubt the family circle is tight and round, with everyone included in the circle! Together is our favorite place to be!
Here’s a list of the themes and a few pics I’ll be sharing to help you start your own Grandmas Camp! You won’t regret it! Leave a comment if you have specific questions before I get the posts up!
