Social distancing & birthdays

Life, death, birth and birthdays are still happening in quarantine times. All times we traditionally would gather to cook, cry and celebrate together. Those are the moments that knit us together, but now we must be apart.

We’ve hit birthday season in our family and this grandma heart is sad to not hug and squeeze each one and celebrate. We are doing our part to social distance and it’s taking a lot of self-control. (honestly … killing me!) I love making birthdays special because it’s the one day that is just yours, once a year!

Gavin had a fun family party and we did facetime to sing together and witness some birthday sillies. Killed me! But in thinking of what I could do to have a memorable time with Gavin, left an envelope on the door to have a lunch date with him the next day. The front of the envelope instructed him to not open the envelop until noon when our date started. Inside was a clue, starting a scavenger hunt.

Final clue lead him to his school park where we had Clorox wipes, Chick-fil-a take out, Texas Sheet Cake, and requested lego set on a private picnic table while social distancing. Gav loved the activity and it was so fun to remind him he is special and important to me!
